1 + 1 Doesn't Always = 2

Well…that might be an odd way to make a point, but if you thought that BMW's X2 might naturally be a bit larger than their X1, you'd be mistaken.

Instead, The X2 is a sporty little 4-door hatchback…sitting just high enough above to ground to merit being called a "SUV". And hey…in spite of it's 2" shorter length, the X2 can still swallow a huge amount of gear behind its second row…25+ cu ft…almost identical to the more squared off X1. BMW actually calls their X2 a "Coupe SUV"…just to set the record straight.

So slotting between the X1 and the very family-friendly X3, we might call the X2 the slightly wild middle child of the family…the one who's likely to be found working out at least three times a week, and then going rock-climbing with you on the weekend.

And whether you're goin' rock climbing, paddle boarding, or just making your weekly commute back into the office, the X2 will get you there promptly. 0-60 comes up in just a blink over 6 seconds, thanks to its 2.0 liter 241 HP twin turbo. If you're in a bigger hurry, BMW's M35i version will get you there a full second quicker, but the window sticker might be around 10K loftier.

Our test X2 xDrive 28i started out with a low $40's price tag, but part of the fun of buying a BMW is adding your own special touches, right? So we enjoyed roughly 10K in special features that included an active driving assistant, special paint, BMW's Traffic Jam Assistant, 19" alloys, sport seats, adaptive M suspension, Sunroof, acoustic glass, BMW's Digital Key, parking assistant, premium audio, heated seats and steering, parking distance control, remote start and more. Pretty much all the special touches that you expect in a luxury vehicle, right?

And back to using your X2 to head on out and have fun. You'll see more and more BMW's of all shapes and sizes coming in "xDrive" trim like ours had. That's BMW's computerized all-wheel-drive system that enhances traction and safety automatically…with power going to each wheel as needed…making puddles and snow a little less of a problem. Ya' still need to be careful, but xDrive is a great "wingman" to have!

In short, if you're looking for a little flair to go with your luxury…and like the convenience of just being able to toss your toys in the rear hatch and go, something like BMW's X2 xDrive28i just might deserve a spot on your shopping list.
