Auto NSider | 2022 GMC Terrain AT4 AWD
If All You Need is Two Rows, Check This One Out
Not everyone needs a three row SUV…and if you’re one of those folks who are looking for just about everything, but want it in a more economical and parkable two-row package, you might want to give GMC’s new Terrain a good look.
Here’s why: Features, affordability and performance.
While Terrains start in this high $20’s, we got the “Sport / Off Road” AT4 AWD version…which gave us an interesting combination of looks, tech, comfort and off-road-ability…all for under forty thousand.
If you’re a fivesome or less, you should have ample leg room in the rear, plus almost 30 cu ft of space behind the second row…and over 63’ if you fold down the second row.
No matter which Terrain you choose, you’ll get a 1.5 liter turbo four with GM’s new 9-speed automatic. That combo will get you an EPA-rated 25 MPG City / 28 Highway…and tow up to 1,500 lbs.
So what else do you get with the AT4 package? 17” gloss black alloys wearing Goodyear Sport Terrain tires, perforated leather seating with heated, leather-wrapped steering, a hands-free rear lift gate, roof-rack, a front skid-plate and a flat-folding front passenger seat that’ll allow you to carry objects up to 8’ long.
All that comes with a surprisingly low $34,000 list price.
A little less than six thousand in options added Bose audio, GM’s Info System with an 8” color touch screen, nav, and voice recognition, sunroof, Surround Vision, front and rear parking assist, a heads-up display, and an array of various rear / cross traffic alerts.
And then in AT4 trim, we, of course got the all-wheel-drive traction select system…with the expected settings for mud, sand, snow etc.
Wrap it all up in metallic “Desert Sand” and you’ve got an attractive and competent package at what today might be considered a bargain price.
