In a development that’s drawing strong reactions across Atlanta and the higher-education community, Morris Brown College has reinstated its president Dr. Kevin James just over a week after his abrupt firing, despite multiple allegations of sexual harassment and hostile workplace behavior.

James’ return comes after the college’s Board of Trustees reversed its earlier decision to terminate him, a move that stunned students, faculty and alumni.

Internal documents reportedly outline grievances filed by at least four staff members, which accuse James of sexual harassment, inappropriate conduct, abuse of authority, threats, and creating a hostile work environment. These complaints were reportedly a key factor in his initial suspension last November.

Former Morris Brown board member Jeffery Miller, who helped appoint James seven years ago, criticized the decision to bring him back. “It’s going to make the board look incompetent, and that’s never good at any institution,” Miller told local media.

James has not publicly responded to questions from reporters about the allegations or his reinstatement.

The leadership saga has sparked concern among students and the broader community, particularly as Morris Brown, one of Atlanta’s historic HBCUs, works to maintain stability and trust following recent institutional challenges.

The Board of Trustees did not release the grievance documents publicly, and details about how the allegations will be addressed going forward remain unclear.
