Millions of Americans are bracing as SNAP be distributed on November 1 due to the ongoing federal government shutdown. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) confirmed that the program has run out of funds for the month, leaving 42 million people nationwide temporarily without assistance.

With the federal safety net on pause, Atlanta organizations are stepping up to fill the gap for families in need.

Local Food Giveaways
New Birth Missionary Baptist Church is hosting a major food giveaway to help metro Atlanta residents affected by the SNAP funding lapse. Families can drive through or walk up to receive fresh produce, canned goods, and essential groceries while supplies last.

Atlanta Public Schools (APS) will also distribute free meals to families across the district. Locations and times vary, but several school campuses will serve as pick-up sites for both students and community members on the last Monday of the month.

Find a Food Pantry Near You
Metro Atlanta residents can also visit several ongoing food pantries and community resources, including:

Atlanta Community Food Bank — acfb.org

The Salvation Army Metro Atlanta — Various pantry locations throughout the city

Hosea Helps — 2545 Forrest Hills Dr. SW, Atlanta, GA

New Birth Missionary Baptist Church — 6400 Woodrow Rd, Lithonia, GA

Midtown Assistance Center — 30 Porter Pl. NE, Atlanta, GA

The King’s Table at Word of Faith Family Worship Cathedral — 212 Riverside Pkwy, Austell, GA

Other Assistance and Delivery Options
Even with the shutdown, there are some national efforts to ease the burden. DoorDash announced it will waive delivery and service fees on one order for SNAP/EBT users between November 1 and November 30.

Eligible customers who have linked their SNAP card can use the promo code that appears in-app while supplies last at select retailers like Sprouts, Dollar General, and Wegmans.
