Wintry weather is on the way, so warming centers are opening as we expect cold temperatures, widespread floods, flurries, and potential snowfall on Wednesday evening.
So far no schools have said they planned to cancel classes, but northern Georgia districts like the Cherokee County School District, have sent FOX 5 Atlanta statements saying they are closely monitoring the forecast.
Meteorologists report that flurries are expected to develop between 6 p.m. Wednesday and midnight. For metro Atlanta, expect subfreezing temperatures, and by midnight Wednesday, wind chills are expected to drop into the teens, falling further into the single digits for some northern suburbs by 7am Thursday.
Thursday's high in Atlanta is only expected to reach 38 degrees, but the wind chill will make it feel much colder. As temperatures are forecast to plummet, several local governments and organizations have activated warming centers across the region to provide some relief.
