Atlanta Falcons release DE Dante Fowler Jr.

The Atlanta Falcons have released veteran pass rusher Dante Fowler Jr., Fowler joined the team during the 2020 offseason. During his two years in Atlanta Fowler battled injuries while collecting 7 ½ sacks, Dukes & Bell talked the move and what it means for the Falcons.

Carl talked about Fowler’s short stint in Atlanta.

“The goal coming in was that Dante Fowler would have two amazing seasons, he’d be a double digit sack guy and that probably he would be extended,” Dukes said. “It didn’t play out that way, he had two mediocre seasons, he had a restructure to save money because he wasn’t living up to the production and then now he’s been released.”

Dukes talked about why many were optimistic when Fowler signed in Atlanta.

“I don’t think this is a surprise, but I do think that Terry Fontenot is looking at all things when it comes to this defense, when it comes to personnel and this is a production business, if you’re not producing especially when you’re one of the highest paid players. He came here, Dan Quinn brought him in here and everybody said this is a good move and at the time I thought it was a good move because he was coming from LA where he was a double digit sack guy and then it didn’t work out.”
