"SiMan Bayebaay!" It was shouted often throughout the private service held Tuesday to remember Silas "SiMan Baby" Alexander. Even DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond delivered a memory of Alexander that concluded with Thurmond leading the audience in shouting the legendary Atlanta radio and club DJ's signature.

Thurmond told of his 40 year relationship with Alexander that began when he hired the radio jock at a station in Athens, Georgia.
Local on-air personalities, including Audacy Atlanta's Joyce Littel and former V103-Atlanta morning host Carol Blackmon, remembered Alexander as a dear friend and a man who gave his all to the community.
Alexander died a week ago after battling pancreatic cancer. His funeral was held at Word Of Faith Cathedral in Austell and was live-streamed.
Poet Hank Stewart delivered a stirring poem he wrote in honor of Alexander titled "I'll see you later." There were musical presentations from singer Darlene McCoy and violinist Ken Ford. The latter played as a photo-collage of Alexander's life flashed on giant screens inside the sanctuary.
There were various Proclamations presented to Alexander's family. Pastor Nathaniel Bronner read a letter from Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens. Fulton County Commissioner Khadijah Abdur-Rahman said that her office had placed 500 small "Fare Thee Well" signs along streets in memory of Alexander. Atlanta City Council member Michael Julian Bond presented a Proclamation from that panel.
In eulogizing Alexander, Dr. Gerald Durley referred to Psalm 37:23, "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way." Durley said that Alexander's steps had been ordered by the Lord. He also declared that Alexander "was the GOAT (Greatest Of All Time) in this city."
