
Independent autopsy results for LaShawn Thompson are being released today. Attorneys for the family of the man who died in the Fulton County Jail are holding a news conference and rally at 11:30am outside the Georgia State Capitol.

Thompson was being housed in the psychiatric ward of the jail when he died last September. The public only recently became aware of the death when his family threatened a lawsuit. The family contends that Thompson died from a massive amount of insect bites.
Thompson had been in jail since July when he was arrested on a simple battery charge, which is a misdemeanor.
Fulton County Sheriff Pat Labat accepted the resignations of three jailers at the facility. The Fulton County Commission approved $5 million dollars in funding for jail improvements.
