This past October, former Atlanta United goal keeper, Brad Guzan announced his retirement after a 21-year professional career which included 64 matches with the United States national team, in which he won three Gold Cups. On Thursday, United announced Guzan would be returning to the club in a new role as the club’s ambassador and sporting adviser.
“Every athlete, when you get older, you start to realize you’re not going to play forever and you need to transition into whatever that role looks like,” Guzan said as he joined 92-9 The Game’s Carl Dukes and Mike Bell to provide some insight on his new role and why he decided to rejoin the club.
“I knew I wanted to stay in the game and I think this for me is an exciting chapter just to be able to see, again, how it all works, learn from the folks that do it day in and day out and hopefully pick up some knowledge along the way to see if this is something I want to do long term,” Guzan said. “Fortunately, the club has been very gracious in saying, hey come on back,” Guzan said of United “opening all the doors,” of opportunity for him.
