Is time still on Michael Penix Jr.'s side in Falcons QB competition?
As the Atlanta Falcons head into Labor Day weekend, they do so having yet to name their starting quarterback for the start of the season, as Michael Penix Jr. and Tua Tagovailoa, continue to battle to be named the Week 1 starter, in a quarterback competition which technically started this past week after Penix Jr. was cleared to be a full participant in training camp.
“That’s the thing that is confusing to me. With him not being cleared to participate in preseason games and [11 on 11] training camp practices, are you going to be able to just give him that opportunity the week of prep to get ready for the Pittsburg Steelers and say that’s enough,” CBS NFL Analyst and two-time Super Bowl champion, Bryant McFadden, said as he joined 92-9 The Game’s Carl Duke and Mike Bell.
“If that’s the case, you’re just basically telling all of us that the other options were horrible in terms of who you have at the starting quarterback position to be your starter,” Bryant said as he explained why he believes it will be somewhat challenging for the Falcons to have enough time to evaluate Penix Jr. and deem him read to be their starting quarterback when they open the season on the road against the Steelers.Will Falcons see enough of Michael Penix Jr. to determine him Week 1 starter?
