It seems like the best team in baseball has its mojo back. After 14 scoreless innings the Braves put up five runs over the course of three innings to erase a 4-0 deficit and defeat the Philadelphia Phillies 5-4 Monday night in Game 2 of the NLDS to even the series at one.
Braves Insider Grant McAuley joined The Morning Shift earlier today and explained why the Braves needed Game 2 to play out exactly the way it did.
“The Braves, they needed that," McAuley said. "They needed that shot in the arm, they needed I think to remind themselves who they’ve been all year long, and it wasn’t just the home runs, which were clutch and which were key because they needed to start scoring runs. But that incredible play by Michael Harris, the unorthodox double play to get Bryce Harper at first base to end that game.
“You could just see the emotion all across the field, and of course the stands. I mean I’ve never seen, and I’ve watched a lot of baseball, a game-ending double play quite like that one and the Braves themselves I think kind of got just a reminder of what they’re capable of, and who they are, and of course what they need to do to win this series.”
The Braves have hopefully shaken off the rust, dusted off the cobwebs, and found their rhythm because they will need to bring their bats to Philadelphia, and be ready to score runs in the city of Brotherly Love.
