Chris Sale continues to make his case for the 2024 National League Cy Young Award, especially following his performance on Tuesday in which he became the first left-handed Braves pitcher to reach 200 strikeouts. However, on Wednesday, The Morning Shift discussed whether or not the veteran pitcher is the best pitcher in baseball this season and why one of his teammates is in the running for that title.
“I agree with you, Chris Sale, best starting pitcher. Best pitcher in baseball might be his own closer when you look at what Raisel Iglasias has done over the course of this entire thing,” Mike Johnson said as the team shared their thoughts on the performance of both Sale and the Braves reliever, who Johnson believes should be considered the top pitcher in MLB this season.
“When the Braves’ backs are against the wall, it’s crunch time and you know that any slim lead that you might have down the stretch run of these games has to be protected at all cost, that’s what Raisel Iglesias has done," Johnson said. "He has stepped into that role and has been absolutely insane throughout the season. It’s been awesome to watch."
