Despite having a 5-0 lead against the Los Angeles Dodgers last night the Atlanta Braves lost again after Shohei Ohtani hit a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Dodgers the 6-5 victory.
The Braves are now 0-7 and off to their worst start in franchise history since they started 0-9 back in 2016, and earlier today The Morning Shift explained Braves’ Manager Brian Sntiker doesn’t deserve any blame for Atlanta’s terrible start to their 2025 campaign.
“What is Snit supposed to do? He’s playing the guys he has. I give him credit for flipping the lineup, I give him credit for bringing [Raisel] Iglesias in to get a five out save, he was one of the best closers in baseball last year, so all of a sudden you’re supposed to assume that he can’t get it done anymore?” Beau Morgan said.
Beau finished his thought by saying “The reality is your bullpen is shorthanded, you’re not getting more than four to five innings from starters, and the guy (Raisel Iglesias) has pitched once all season, so I had no problem with that move; it just didn’t work”.
As a team the Braves are batting .151, and their team ERA is 5.11. At the end of the day players have to play, get the big hits, and get the big outs. Brian Snitker has seemingly made all the right decisions, but if none of the players are doing enough to get the job done that's a player issue not a Brian Snitker issue, and the Braves’ team batting average and ERA point to it being a player issue.
However, if being in front of their home crowd doesn’t change their fortunes, and if they don’t start winning soon it will quickly become a Brian Snitker problem.
