Falcons fans were blindsided Monday by the news that Calvin Ridley has been suspended for the 2022 season for gambling on NFL games during his time away from the team. While most reactions to the situation were focused on Ridley, one caller earned the ‘spicy take of the day’ award from Andy & Randy on 92.9 The Game by suggesting that this whole situation is…Matt Ryan’s fault.
Paul from Newnan called in to ask the question; can we start to entertain the idea that Calvin Ridley doesn’t want to play with Matt Ryan? Stunned, Randy McMichael attempted to get some clarification on the question asking if Paul believed Ridley gambled just to get away from the Falcons. Paul stuck to his guns saying that the gambling and the initial leave of absence can all be traced back to Ryan.
“It sounds crazy, I know,” Paul said before getting a succinct answer from McMichael.
“Hell yeah it sounds crazy bruh,” he said as he sarcastically suggested that Ridley cost himself $11 million on purpose.
With how polarizing the conversation surrounding the quarterback position has become in Atlanta as of late, Andy Bunker knew that the conversation would wind up at this point after the Ridley news broke.
“It only took until 12:50, but I knew someone would make this about Matt Ryan. I knew that would happen,” Bunker said.
Ridley stepped away from the team citing mental health issues in October 2021. Reports indicate that Ridley placed bets during his hiatus, including parlays that included the Falcons, from Florida in November. The league’s investigation found that no other members of the Falcons organization were aware of Ridley’s betting activity.
