This time last week, the Atlanta Falcons had one true wide receiver, former first-round pick Drake London.
But with the stroke of a few pens and some phone calls in between, the Falcons have not only landed a new starting quarterback with the major signing of veteran free agent Kirk Cousins, but they have found Cousins and new OC Zac Robinson three new weapons to use in the offense. Plus they resigned their own free agent, WR KhaDarel Hodge.
The moves began with the signing of Darnell Mooney to a three-year, $39 million contract to hopefully come in and be the true No. 2 at wideout.
The next two moves the Falcons made could really turn into the moves that take the WR corps from a major concern to an instant strength.
Earlier Thursday, GM Terry Fontenot shipped last year’s starting QB Desmond Ridder to the Arizona Cardinals for WR Rondale Moore, a speedy receiving option that could provide a new dynamic to the Falcons offense.
The moves did not end there, as Fontenot landed one more weapon via free agency when he inked former 49ers WR and kick returner Ray-Ray McCloud to a two-year contract.
McCloud will be counted on to make an impact on both special teams as well as in the offense.
So, with all the moves to give the offense even more weapons for the new franchise QB, do you agree with Dukes & Bell that the draft has to be all defensive?
