It’s no secret that the job security Thomas Dimitroff had as the general manager of the Atlanta Falcons was based partly on getting the Matt Ryan pick right in 2008.
Terry Fontenot is in the same position as Dimitroff was in 2008 with a top 5 pick and in his first year as general manager. If Fontenot gets this pick right, he could possibly be rewarded with the same job security as his predecessor. Whether or not that pick is a quarterback is the big question that Fontenot will have to answer.
Jon Chuckery doesn’t think that Fontenot has to draft a quarterback in order for Fontenot to put his stamp on this roster. He does believe that the players he drafts have to make an immediate impact. “I have to see this draft look good immediately” Chuckery said.
Privately, Fontenot probably would love to get Ryan’s successor in the can so he doesn’t have to worry about that position going forward. But if he wants to put his stamp on this roster, he will have to draft guys in the first couple of rounds that come in and make an impact right away.
