On Friday, the NFL released the 2026 salary cap for franchises, as well as the franchise tag amount for each position, setting the tight-end number just under $15 million dollars. “I don’t know about you, but I will like we’re saving there,” 92-9 The Game’s Carl Dukes said as he and Abe Gordon shared thoughts on the Falcons placing the franchise tag on Kyle Pitts earlier this week and learning the value of the one-year deal Pitts will earn if not traded.
“I think you franchise him, you know the set money you’ll have to spend there and then you use the rest of the stuff to go address your free agency needs. I’m fine with this,” Dukes continued as he explained why he believes the Falcons made “the smartest move” when they tagged Pitts, who is coming off of his best season since his rookie season, as he finished the 2025 campaign with 928 receiving yards and five receiving touchdowns.
“When they made the announcement, I said great, we just didn’t know what it would look like when it was officially done, so now we do. I think we saved on this,” Dukes said of the potential cost of Pitts’ services for 2026. “I think the money is as favorable as anyone would have hoped for,” Gordon said in agreement with Dukes.
