
7A – What an opening week of action and upsets and 7A had a few Pick 6 teams take a loss in their season opener.
Collins Hill remains at No. 1 after their 36-10 win over Brookwood on Saturday.
The Milton Eagles jump from No. 5 to No. 2 after they defeated Hapeville 45-0, while Grayson, North Cobb and Lowndes all suffered defeats in their openers, dropping them out of the top six. Lowndes, last week’s No. 2, loss to Walton, who breaks into the top six at No. 3, 34-28 in an overtime thriller. Grayson loss to Creekside 19-14 and North Cobb suffered a tough 35-27 loss to defending 6A state champs, Buford. Also breaking in the top six this week is Colquitt County at No. 4. The Packers opened their season with a 28-25 win over Marietta. At No. 5 is Mill Creek, who rolled to a 43-10 win over Parkview in their opener and rounding out the top six is West Forsyth. The Wolverines opened up their season with a 38-8 win over Carver-Atlanta.

6A – There are not many changes in the 6A rankings as five of the top six were all victorious in their openers.
Buford made the necessary halftime adjustments to pick up a 35-27 win over North Cobb and redeeming themselves as the Warriors were the only loss the Wolves suffered last year. Lee County edged Carver-Columbus 25-22, Westlake downed Archer 29-14, Carrollton cruised to a 49-13 win over New Manchester and Rome topped Rockmart 23-7. Langston Hughes, would be the lone team to suffer a defeat, dropping them from the top six and allowing River Ridge to jump in at No. 6, who opened their season with a 35-16 win over Lassiter.

5A – Just as in 6A, only one team suffered a loss in the 5A top six, with that being St. Pius. The Golden Lions lost 21-14 to Flowery Branch, dropping them out of the top six and moving Warner Robins in at No. 3 after their 48-20 win over Valdosta and Coffee, who was idle after their match up with Drew was cancelled comes in at No. 4.
Creekside breaks into the top six at No. 6 thanks to their 19-14 win over defending 7A state champs, Grayson. Blessed Trinity and Ware County remain locked in at their respective week one positions as we head into week two.

4A – Changes in 4A were a result of a combination teams not having their season opener until this week and a couple of losses. With Marist and Benedictine both idle this week, Jefferson jumps to No. 2 after picking up a 22-13 win over Rabun County. Carver-Columbus, last week’s No. 4 and Hapeville, last week’s No. 6 both suffered losses in their openers, thus dropping Hapeville out of the top six and Carver-Columbus down to No. 6. Cedartown, last week’s No. 5, moves up a spot to No. 4 with Perry moving into the top six. Perry takes the No. 5 spot as they come off a 36-13 win over Houston County and Flowery Branch rounds out the top six at No. 6 as they opened up the season with a 21-14 win over St. Pius.

3A – A few teams in 3A were not in action during the first week of football and a couple of our top six opened up the season with losses so there has been some shifting in the rankings. Oconee County holds on to No. 1 after opening up the season with a 35-28 win over rival North Oconee. Both Cedar Grove and Crisp County were idle this past week but remain in their respective No. 2 and No. 3 positions, meanwhile Pierce County, Peach County and Carver-Atlanta were all handed losses in week one, dropping them from the top six. Moving into this week and coming in at No. 4. is Appling County who opened up the season with a 42-6 victory over Monroe, Sandy Creek, who defeated rival Northgate 24-3, comes in at No. 5 and Westminster comes in at No. 6 after their 17-7 win over rival Lovett.

2A – Three of our top six from week one, Rabun County, Lovett, and Jefferson County dropped out of the rankings after opening the season with losses, allowing Thomasville, Bleckley County and Haralson County to move into the week two rankings. Callaway holds onto the No. 1 position as they come off 30-21 win over Opelika, and despite their loss to Jefferson, Rabun remains No. 2. Fitzgerald remains locked in at No. 3 and new comers Thomasville comes in at No. 4 thanks to their 42-34 win over Brooks County, Bleckley takes the No. 5 position after opening up with a 21-14 win over West Laurens and Haralson comes in at No. 6 after a 43-24 region win over Pepperell.

1A Public – Coming into week two, an idle Irwin County remains in the No. 1 spot as Dublin, who was idle takes over No. 2. Commerce’s 10-0 win over Banks County allows them to take the No. 3 position and Lincoln County was also idle but with the losses of last week’s No. 2 and No. 3, Brooks County and Clinch County, respectively, Lincoln County remains at No. 4. Breaking into the top six is Macon County at No. 5, who defeated former No. 3 Clinch County, 26-0 and Metter takes No. 6 after their 32-20 win over Swainsboro.

1A Private – With Eagle’s Landing and Athens Academy dropping their season openers there was some shake up in the 1A Private top six. ELCA’s 17-14 loss to Woodward Academy has them slipping from the No. 1 spot down to No. 5, while Trinity Christian, who defeated last week’s No. 4, Athens Academy, 59-7, takes over the No. spot, moving up from No. 2 and dropping the Spartans from the top 6. Wesleyan comes off an impressive 31-0 win over Mt. Pisgah, moving them from No. 5 up to No. 6 and North Cobb Christian breaks into the top six at No. 6 after topping St. Francis 24-14 in their opener.
