Today on the Big Tigger Morning Show with Jazzy McBee with Frank Ski filling in for Big Tigger, and Kenya Mitchell, the mother of the slain Malachi Mitchell stopped in to give updates on the quest to find out what happened to her son. Malachi was shot and killed in late January during what authorities say was a private gun sale gone wrong near Douglasville. The shooter allegedly admitted to firing the fatal shot after a struggle over the weapon, but despite the confession, deputies let him go.
According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, the suspect drove away from the scene with Malachi's body still in the car. He was pulled over later that night and questioned by deputies. Law enforcement cited concerns about gang retaliation and said they are still reviewing the evidence before making any arrests.
"He admitted he shot my son. And they let him go," Kenya Mitchell said.
Now, more than six months later, the suspect remains free, and Kenya Mitchell has filed a wrongful death lawsuit and continues to speak out, demanding transparency and justice for her son.
According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, the case is still under review by the district attorney, and safety remains a top concern. However, for Kenya, the silence and inaction are maddening.
"I just want to know why," she said. "Why is my son gone, and the man who killed him gets to go on with life like nothing happened?"
Kenya is fighting to find the truth and if you want to help she has a website, a gofundme page to help with legal fees, and a petition to demand accountability an justice. Check out the links below.
