Jeff McNeil thought for sure that he had himself at least an extra-base hit, maybe even a home run that would have broken a scoreless tie in Wednesday’s series finale against the Braves.
In the bottom of the second, McNeil yanked a deep drive down the right field line, but former teammate Guillermo Heredia scaled the Citi Field wall, reached up, and made the catch while hanging from the right field wall with his non-glove hand.
McNeil could only stare out at his former teammate in disbelief, while Heredia tipped his cap.
An early catch of the year candidate, for sure, though one McNeil likely wants to forget.
