Moving on from Arthur Smith is not so simple for the Falcons

Steak Shapiro explains that moving on from Arthur Smith could have more downside than up

While the Falcons’ win on Sunday may have kept their chances of making the playoffs alive, there are some who believe that the future of Arthur Smith is questionable and failing to reach the post-season could determine his fate as head coach of the Falcons. Currently sitting at 7-8 on the season, Atlanta is also still in position to finish out the season with an above .500 record and give Arthur Smith is first winning season since becoming the head coach of the franchise, yet many fans have made their disappoint in the Falcons direction under Smith and the calls for his firing have been loud and clear.

On Tuesday during The Steakhouse on 92-9 The Game, Steak Shapiro shared his thoughts on smith and the Falcons and while to an extent he agrees with some of the reasoning for fans wanting Atlanta to move from Smith, he explains that such a move is not as “simple” as fans may wish it to be and that there are changes that would come with the move and therefore could put the Falcons in a positon similar to a restart.

“If you’re going to get rid of your head coach, you’re not starting from scratch because the roster is not that, but you’re flipping the building, you’re changing the philosophy,” Shapiro said during Tuesday’s show, explaining that Smith, who is now in year three as head coach of the Falcons, had brought in an al new staff when he took over, therefore while roster positions would see little if any shake up, a new coaching staff would require players to once again adjust to new ways. “Are you going to do that all over again? Has it been that bad a year?” Shapiro asked.

And while Shapiro states that he agrees the season has been “disappointing and frustrating”, he reminds listeners that “winning’s hard in the NFL, not just in Atlanta, winning’s hard in the NFL,” he adds. Click link above to hear Steak’s comments in their entirety:
