Falcons head coach Raheem Morris stopped by Dukes & Bell Thursday for his weekly visit following the team's loss to the Washington Commanders on Sunday Night Football. Morris has been the subject of scrutiny after he chose not to call timeout with 30 seconds left in regulation with a moving clock and the score tied while the Falcons were driving into scoring range.
Morris, while questioned by Mike Bell about his choice to not use a timeout and give the team a chance to reset, challenged Bell by saying "yeah, 100%, but you didn't listen to what I said, like you don't do every week," referring to their conversations on the show.
The Falcons were unable to capitalize on their field position and ultimately lost the game in overtime. Morris says Bell is right to question the decision and he knows the team and coaching staff needs to be better in those situations.
"Like you just said, obviously it wasn't the right decision, it didn't work out for us, we didn't get the completion so you can't get the win."
The unfortunate result is the decision to not call timeout will be seen a focal point of the 2024 Falcons' season if they cannot get help from the Saints on Sunday to beat the Buccaneers. That scenario is the only one that will allow a window to reopen for the team to make the playoffs for the first time in seven seasons.
