When President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris visit Atlanta today, 5th District Congresswoman Nikema Williams will be reflecting on the past year.
It was a year ago this week when Rep. Williams contracted COVID-19 and the country knew very little about the virus. She says, "we felt we were shutting down for just a couple of weeks to get things under control and our lives would get back to the same, but that didn't happen."
Not only did Williams survive COVID-19, she went on to win the Congressional seat held by longtime Congressman and Civil Rights icon John Lewis, who died in July 2020.
U.S.House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has lauded Rep. Williams as being a key component in turning Georgia Blue in the recent elections and in getting the America Rescue Plan
passed in Congress.
