On Sunday morning, John Fricke welcomed in Hawks broadcaster Steve Holman to get an update on the state of the franchise as the team heads into the offseason. There is a level of uncertainty from the fan base heading into the summer with regards to the moves the Hawks will make to bolster the roster.
The summer of big change is upon us and there is a little over six weeks left until the 2023/24 NBA league year is officially underway. As to who will ultimately be behind a majority of these decisions regarding player personnel and the construction of the coaching staff, the “Voice of the Hawks” wanted to make it perfectly clear that head coach Quin Snyder was brought into the fold for a reason much deeper than drawing up X’s and O’s.
“He’s definitely going to have a big say in everything, that’s for sure,” Holman responded about Snyder. “I think that’s one of the things that, when they brought him in, they told him they would do that. He wanted that in Utah too, I think that was part of the reason he ended up leaving there.”
“Quin is certainly going to have a lot to say about, you know, who’s on this team and I think he’s going to be working pretty closely with the front office and I think they’re going to be a pretty good team, the three of them – Landry (Fields) and Kyle (Korver) and Quin – going forward.”
Later on, Holman spoke to the commitment from Principal Owners, Tony Ressler and Jami Gertz, and was confident that the front office has been given the green light from Ressler to do what needs to be done to make this team better.
“I think that’s really not something we need to be worried about.” Holman said. “I know Tony is very willing to do whatever it takes, and that means spending money too, to make this team better”
