Michael Harris II was the most impressive member of the Braves' rookie trios that took the league by storm in 2022. In 114 games played, Harris posted 123 hits, 19 homeruns, 64 runs batted in, and 20 stolen bases. Those numbers were good enough to earn him the Rookie of the Year honor over the likes of teammate, Spencer Strider.
Its hard to believe that Harris will repeat that same level of production, however there is one area of Harris' game that Jon Chuckery believes needs to improve in 2023. His on base percentage.
As Chuckery stated, with the departure of Dansby Swanson in free agency, Michael Harris will "probably" replace him in their batting rotation at the second spot behind Ronald Acuña Jr. Chuckery went on to say, "I'd like to see that on base percentage get back to .350 and above."
Harris earned an OBP of .339 on 414 at bats. Harris also posted 21 walks along with 107 strikeouts. Getting consistency from the hometown kid will be big for the Braves as they will need someone who can create scoring opportunities and not rely on the "boom or bust" style of offense they had last season.
If Harris can take that next step, the Braves will have two young dynamic batters leading off every night, quite the advantage to say the least.
