The one team that could derail Braves' playoff plans

The Atlanta Braves will look to end their 1-5 skid in their last six games as they take on the lowly Washington Nationals. Their recent struggles come at an inopportune time as the chase for the best record in baseball is tightening up with home field advantage on the line. Their recent series versus Philadelphia was a tough reminder of how their season ended last year and that they remain as tough an out in 2023.

The Braves have two series with Washington and one with the surging Cubs sandwiched in between to end the regular season. The Cubs will be hungry as they are locked in a tight battle themselves to try and earn a Wild Card spot.

Audacy MLB Insider and Padres broadcaster Tony Gwynn Jr. joined the show and agreed with the guys that the Phillies are going to be a tough out and have an offense that can rival Atlanta with their depth and power.

“We saw them not too long ago and that’s the thing that stands out to me, too," Gwynn said. "They can bang with absolutely anybody. They’re probably the team outside of the Braves that scares you the most offensively.”

The Braves hope their downfall at the hands of Philly last season will be a one-time occurrence and not something that looms large this year. The battle will once again be won on the mound as both teams have issues with their starting pitching depth. Bryce Elder and Charlie Morton have faltered to end the season; both should have one more start to finish strong.
