On Tuesday Andy & Randy reacted to Atlanta Braves rookie Bryce Elder throwing an 8-0 shutout against the Washington Nationals becoming the first Braves rookie to throw a shutout since Steve Avery in 1990. Elder went the distance against the Nationals giving up six hits and only walking one batter while striking out six.

After talking about how big of an impact Elder’s complete game shutout had on the team and specifically the bullpen Andy & Randy turned their attention to what Bryce Elder’s role might be, come the playoffs, which start later next week.

“He (Bryce Elder) might be a little bit more important than just yesterday, you know what I mean. With the way things are going with Strider who knows, I mean that’s just a mystery as far as that goes…Charlie Morton is obviously going to start a playoff game before Bryce Elder does but Odorizzi (Jake Odorizzi) is a disaster so I would trust Bryce Elder than I would Odorizzi right now,” Andy said.

“Bryce Elder has a pretty decent chance of factoring into your playoff, I don’t know if rotation, but maybe, maybe,” Andy added.

“It’s exactly where we were with these guys two years ago. Kyle Wright is going to have start an NLCS game. Worked out great. Last year Dylan is starting a World Series game…Kyle Wright came into a World Series game last year and went 5 innings and was amazing and kind of kick-started what this year became where he won 20 games. Maybe Bryce Elder is this year’s that,” Andy stated.

The guys also asked 92.9 The Game Braves Insider Grant McAuley about the idea of Elder making a start in the postseason. Here is that Q & A with Grant:

You can hear Andy & Randy Monday-Friday from 11a-2p on 92.9 The Game.
