Atlanta United’s 2025 season kicked off on Saturday with a 3-2 win over Montreal and included a two-goal night from one of the club’s newest members, Emmanuel Latte Lath. “The buzz around Atlanta feels different with Atlanta United than the last three seasons,” Steak Shapiro said on Monday as he was joined by United radio play by play announcer, Mike Conti, and the two shared their thoughts on the club’s season opening win.

“It really did feel a lot like 2018, 2019. That energy has been recaptured a little bit,” Conti said in response to Shapiro’s comments as he noted seeing the presence of United fans earlier in the day on Saturday, prior to their match later. “It’s such a great thing for our city on a sleepy Saturday, which is what this was, that we have a sporting event and a team here that just adds energy,” Shapiro added.

As their conversation continued, Conti shared he also believes the return of Miguel Almiron, who was a pivotal player on United’s 2018 championship team, has played a role in the fanbase being re-energized and excited about this season. “He was a dominant player when he was here the first time, now he’s an even better player six years later because he’s had the seasoning of being in the premier league,” Conti added.
