Sunday night after the Atlanta Falcons controversial loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Falcons kept their name in the headlines by trading former Pro-Bowl linebacker to the Cleveland Browns, Deion Jones, in exchange for the swapping of late 2024 first round picks. Also, the Atlanta Falcons also are paying most of Deion Jones’ contract as they will pay $20 million while the Cleveland Browns are just paying $1 million.

Jon Chuckery months ago explained why he believed that Deion Jones was not going to be an Atlanta Falcon for very long this season, and he reminded all of his critics and haters today that he was right! On this Tuesday edition of The Jon Chuckey Show, Jon explains how the writing was on the ride the whole time.

Chuckery knew that Deion Jones wasn’t going to play for the Falcons again once he got that minor cleanup surgery right before mandatory minicamp started.Jon says “This was all a rigged game because Deion was not going to play again for the Falcons.”

Jon says that it isn’t happenstance or coincidence that Deion’s surgery was scheduled for the week going into mandatory minicamp, he gets put on the PUP list during mandatory minicamp and training camp, he comes off the PUP list during the last week of the preseason, and plays in the final preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Then, after the final preseason game he goes on IR, and one week after coming off of IR he gets traded.

Jon also mentions the restructuring of Jones’ contract as well saying “What they really did was make it to where the Falcons will eat a bunch of money and if we trade Deion that team will have no big financial commitment.” Again, as mentioned earlier the Falcons will pay $20 million of Deion Jones’ remaining salary while the Cleveland Browns are only going to pay $1 million.

It’s clear that Deion Jones and his skill set is not a fit in Dean Pees’ system, and they did everything they had to do to keep Deion off the field without having to answer questions about why a healthy Deion Jones isn’t playing, so it was a great job to avoid distraction by the Falcons, and now that the trade is done both the Falcons and Deion Jones can now move on.
