Atlanta Braves General Manager Alex Anthopoulos addressed the media yesterday, and talked about how he’s been more active in trade talks with other teams this season than in season’s past, and while the Braves are buyers right now, you have to wonder if they continue to struggle any longer will they become sellers at the July 30th trade deadline. Earlier today The Morning Shift discussed if it would be beneficial for the Braves to be sellers at next month’s trade deadline if the team doesn’t turn things around soon.
“I think we’re two or three weeks away offensively if you continue with this offense of me wondering what we can get for Max Fried at the trade deadline. I’m two weeks away of watching this offense swing cold bats and continue down that road of me wondering are they gonna go from what can we add to what can we get for some of these guys, because it’s not only bad and not only cold it’s showing no signs of life.” Mike Johnson said.
You would like to think the Braves struggles won’t continue or at least won’t be that bad to the point where the question of are we buyers or sellers pops into the mind of Alex Anthopoulos, but the Braves are currently on a five game losing streak, they’ve lost 22 of their last 38 games for the first time since August 23rd thru October 1st, 2017, and they’ve lost 16 of their last 25 games for the first time since August 11th thru September 6th, 2017.
If things get any worse Anthopoulos and the Braves may look to trade free agent to be Max Fried to see what they could get in return, and possibly make other moves that wouldn’t be moves to blow up the team, but moves that would help them re-tool for next season and future seasons instead of adding players that could help the team win now.
