Falcons defense may have to carry the load for offense
As the Atlanta Falcons start getting ready for their Week 2 matchup with their NFC South division rival, the Carolina Panthers, their season opening loss to the Pittsburg Steelers has still been top of mind for 92-9 The Game’s Carl Dukes and Mike Bell, as they have expressed concern in regards to the potential of Cooper Rush being named the starter for the second straight week as the status of Michael Penix Jr. and Tua Tagovailoa’s health remains uncertain.
And while the Falcons offense put on a less than desirable performance in Sunday’s 20-13 loss, Dukes and Bell credit Atlanta defense for their efforts in “keeping the game winnable” as they held the Steelers to 58 rushing yards and 279 total yards of offense. “We did look good against a bad Pittsburg offense,” Bell said as he explained that while the Falcons defense played well on Sunday, he believes the Panthers may possesses a bigger challenger in which he would “really feel good” should the Falcons have a repeat defensive performance.
“But you’re asking a lot of your defense here early in the season,” Dukes said as he explained why he believes the Atlanta defense would be under pressure week to week while their offense works through their quarterback problems. “You start looking at this schedule Mike and you’re asking a lot of your defense.
