Falcons selection of Avieon Terrell will be a great story but they want to win games
We all love a great story, especially in sports and on Friday, when the Atlanta Falcons selected Clemson cornerback, Avieon Terrell with the 48th overall pick, their first pick of the 2026 NFL Draft, pairing him with his older brother, AJ Terrell, who the Falcons drafted 16th overall in the 2020 draft.
“You can’t draft for the story. This is the National Football League and you have to win football games,” ESPN Falcons reporter, Marc Raimondi, said on Monday as he joined 92-9 The Game’s Carl Dukes and Mike Bell to discuss the Falcons selection of the younger Terrell not being about a ‘feel good story’ and about bringing in a player who can help Atlanta win.
“Avieon Terrell is a guy that, look a lot of people think that he can play the slot,” Raimondi continued as he shared thoughts on the role Terrell may play for the Falcons noting there is a consensus “that’s probably going to be where he projects best at the next level,” as the Falcons are still without Billy Bowman Jr., who is working his way back from an Achilles injury, and have moved on from Dee Alford.
“They don’t really have a clear slot corner, maybe that’s now Avieon Terrell, Mike Hughes stays on the outside with AJ Terrell and then when Billy Bowman [Jr.] gets back, maybe they shuffle the deck a little bit and see Avieon Terrell can play outside or they’ll complete at least,” Raimondi said of Terrell’s potential role on the Falcons defense.Avieon Terrell brings versatility to Falcons secondary
