Hawks can improve 'nice young core' with right draft pick

With the NBA Lottery Draft set to take place this Sunday, with the potential to land a top 10 pick, the Atlanta Hawks may have an opportunity to add one of the top prospects in the country to their roster as they currently have approximately a nine percent chance to land the number one overall pick for the second time in three years.

“If you could bring Darius Acuff [Jr.] in here, you probably should live with a year or two of growing pains and let him grow with your young core,” Brian Geltzeiler of Sirius XM, said on Wednesday as he joined 92-9 The Game’s Carl Dukes and Mike Bell to discuss players the Hawks could select in this year’s NBA Draft once the lottery picks are determined on Sunday

“You have a really nice young core,” Geltzeiler said as he explained why he believes Atlanta has a bright future with players such as Jalen Johnson, Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Dyson Daniels. “There’s a ;ot of good young guys here that I think you have the luxury to be patient if that’s the route that you decide to go,” Geltzeiler said of Atlanta should they select a player like Acuff Jr.

“I think for the Hawks, in terms of what they decide to do in this offseason, there’s no doubt, especially with the fact that they’re going to get the better of the Milwaukee, New Orleans pick, you have to prioritize your future,” Geltzeiler said.
