Earlier today The Morning Shift reacted to the Atlanta Falcons signing defensive end Keshawn Banks, defensive tackle Devonnsha Maxwell and wide receiver Antwane Wells Jr., all from the UFL, react to the Falcons also releasing defensive lineman Elijah Garcia, defensive end CJ Nunnally IV, and wide receiver Casey Washington, talk about how there’s been a lot of turnover in the Falcon wide receiver room, and explained why they think the turnover in the Falcons wide receiver room should create a lot of good competition in that room
“I hope it’s just a signal for competition.” Mike Johnson said.
Mike finished his thought by saying “I just hope it breeds competition in the end because that’s really what it has been for the fifth, sixth, seven slots. Right now I don’t think there’s a clear cut two behind Drake London, and he’s so unique as a wide receiver that the person that plays that two role that’s kind of a big deal, so I hope that there’s a lot of competition behind it.”
The Falcons wide receiver room lacked depth and production last season from everyone not named Drake London, and with the moves made so far this offseason it seems like fixing the receiver room was a real priority for Matt Ryan, Ian Cunningaham, Kevin Stefanski, and the Falcons new regime. Hopefully the investments put into the receiver room made by the Falcons come with good results this season.
