2022 Mazda CX-30 Premium Plus Turbo
Bob Jackson

Yes…With Mazda's optional 250 HP 2.5 liter turbo, you won't really ever have to select "Sport" on the transmission controls.  This vehicle is in "Sport" mode from the moment you press "Start".

The CX-30, if you haven't been paying attention, is Mazda's still-new baby SUV....on the streets for just a couple of years now.   With 4 doors, a rear hatch, and a couple more inches of altitude than Mazda's 3 Series, the CX-30 fits into Mazda's lineup below their best-selling CX-5

With the standard non-turbo 186 HP four, you've got an excellent handling comfortable riding little runabout.

With the turbo and Mazda's Premium Plus package, you've got something else altogether…a genuine luxury / sport vehicle.

And that's exactly the direction that Mazda is taking their whole lineup.   After decades of chasing Toyota, Honda, Nissan and other mainly mid-stream competitors, Mazda is upping their game and offering an interesting alternative to the likes of Lexus, Infinity, Acura and a few of the Europeans, too.

The turbo will get you from 0-60 in around 6 seconds, and with the Premium Plus package, it'll get you there in comfort with heated leather seats and steering, 12-speaker Bose sound, 18" black alloys, LED lighting, front and rear parking sensors, a 360 degree view monitor, and all the safety alerts and phone connectivity that you'd expect.

All '22 CX-30's come standard with all-wheel-drive…and they start in the low $20's.   Mileage in the non-turbo is EPA rated at 24 city and 31 hwy. Surprisingly the turbo does almost as well, getting 22 and 30 respectively.  To go turbo will take very low $30's…with our test Premium Plus turbo running $35,875.

If your budget permits, go with the turbo.   It's a truly enjoyable ride.   And as a bonus, you'll also enjoy knowing that some of Mazda's luxury / sport competitors will be asking around ten thousand more for roughly the same level of comfort and performance.
