This week, On Point with Juandolyn Stokes welcomed, Kim Crayton, author of "Profit Without Oppression: A Blueprint to Building an Antiracist Organization." Crayton calls herself the Antiracist Economist, is someone who views the economy through a lens that is free of discriminatory factors such as supremacy, coercion, or exploitation because they prioritize the vulnerable to effectively analyze systems, institutions, and policies that are designed to give privilege to some at the expense of many.
Before Crayton began her work as an antiracist economist, she worked as an educator. While she is not an economist by profession, her work requires her to view and comment on our global economic ecosystems to assist business leaders operationalizing their core values.
Crayton drew a contrast between how during the pandemic some residents in the northern parts of the city were able to take advantage of certain services like food delivery while others on the south side were not because they lack the means to do so.
Crayton says she does not try to convince or convert anyone to agree with her. "If you don't understand this, then we don't have anything to talk about," she said.
In the end, Crayton received an invitation to return to the show for a deeper discussion on the economy and how it affects our community.
