Local Leaders Call Out Fulton County Commissioner Rob Pitts
A war is brewing in South Fulton County after the decision by the Fulton County Commission to stop administering federal funds targeted to help low- and moderate-income communities in the county.
A coalition of civic, religious, and community organizations held a press conference at Vicars Community Center in southwest Atlanta on Monday to express their concerns and urge citizens to attend the next county commission meeting this Wednesday, January 8, at 10 am.
The coalition concluded that small jurisdictions in the southern part of the county would be most adversely affected by the potential loss of funds that they have come to rely on through the Community Development Block Grants (CDBG). They depend on CGBD funds to help finance projects such as affordable housing, senior services, homelessness prevention, and to address the shelter and health needs of people who become homeless.
Local leaders all spoke about the impact of the county’s withdrawal from the CDBG program.
The next County Commission meeting is this Wednesday, January 8, at 10 am.
