Highly respected Atlanta activist Haroun Shahid Wakil AKA Big Haroun was found deceased yesterday in his home. Details are still coming, but foul play is not expected.
Mr. Wakil was founder of The Street Groomers and a longtime friend of media personality, Dr. Rashad Richey. Today, Dr. Richey dedicated all 3 hours of The Rashad Richey Morning Show to pay tribute to his friend, Big Haroun.
Fulton Chief Magistrate Judge Cassandra Kirk, former Atlanta City Councilwoman Mary Norwood, Atlanta City Council President Felicia Moore, Atlanta City Councilman and activist Antonio Brown, Fulton County Commissioner Marvin Arrington, Jr., community leaders and listeners called in to highlight the impact Haroun had on them personally and in the world. Many government officials have expressed that their office will send official proclamations to the family in honor of Big Haroun.
Haroun believed in helping children have a brighter future, was a champion for fairness and backed down from no one. "Haroun was one of a kind. His heart and love for others was infectious. Him and I spoke everyday. He was simply the best friend someone could have. He will be missed. The work will continue.", said Richey.
