On Point with Juandolyn Stokes (OPWJS) welcomed guest host Chief Judge of the Magistrate of Rockdale County, Judge Phinia Aten this week along with Law and Legal host and attorney, C.K. Hoffler of the C.K. Hoffler Firm for the weekly feature, Law and Legal.
This episode of Law and Legal explored the allegations against Fulton County District Attorney, Fani Willis who was also guest speaker at the historic Big Bethel AME church for the King Sunday Celebration.
According to publicist and Sunday Chairperson at Big Bethel chairperson, Carla Morrison, Willis was invited last November to be the guest speaker, long before the current allegations were raised.
“The audience received her very well because we all understand. They are spewing hate towards her. This is the same hate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. received,” said Morrison.
Morrison’s invitation to Willis put Big Bethel AME on the international story map.
“The angle of the print newspapers is wrong! The only one that got it right was, “The Atlanta Voice,” which has a Black publisher,” said Morrison.
“She has a target on her back,” said Hoffler.
She added these allegations put no cloud over her work as D.A. She is a fighter, unimpeachable. But what they do is empower other defendants to feel they can use these allegations in their favor in their case.
This is precisely what is happening in the cases of former President Trump and former Trump staffer, Michael Roman, both of whom are attempting to use the allegations of Willis’ personal relationship with prosecutor Nathan Wade to challenge their cases.
Angela Greene, producer of OPWJS asked Hoffler and Aten if former President Trump’s classic red herring argument to incite the allegations against Willis will lead to his exoneration, to which they responded, No! A red herring argument is when one attempts to divert the attention from the issue at hand to something with no relevance.
“You have to appreciate former President Trump’s creativity with trying to get out these allegations [his indictment in the state of Georgia],” said Hoffler.
She and Aten agree this argument is going nowhere in court.
According to Hoffler, the bottom line from a legal perspective is there is no illegality or impropriety in hiring one’s friend to work on a case with you, especially if they are qualified to do the work, which all three prosecutors are.
If there is any truth to spending taxpayers money or allegations of impropriety for it then it will have to take its course, but Hoffler says she believes Willis will be vindicated.
All eyes will be on her response to the allegations, which will give insight into her thoughts about allegations against her, says Hoffler.
“This is an attempt to get her off the case or cause delay, which is only done when you are effective. They know, she knows what she is doing,’ said Hoffler.
Judge Aten questioned how Willis and Wade could engage in “whirlwind affair” with secret service detail.
“This is why I never post about my boo, and I have one,” said Aten.
