A growing Atlanta-area nonprofit is preparing to deepen its community impact with the launch of a new headquarters in Douglas County, marking a major milestone in its mission to serve underserved populations across metro Atlanta.
Janae Harris, founder and executive director of Onfiya, shared her journey and vision during a recent interview, highlighting both her personal story and the organization’s rapid growth since its founding in 2020. Harris, who grew up in Savannah, Georgia, described her path as one rooted in resilience and purpose.
“ I'm just I'm just a young lady who grew up off of the east side of Savannah, Georgia. I'm a teen mom, and now I am. I'm a veteran, and now I am striving here in Atlanta after establishing an amazing nonprofit by the name of Onfiya here in Atlanta, Georgia,” Harris said.
Since launching during the COVID-19 pandemic, Onfiya has expanded its reach across multiple counties, including Clayton, DeKalb, Fulton and Douglas, focusing on providing resources and support to communities in need. The organization serves a wide range of individuals, including teen mothers, survivors of domestic violence and those affected by homelessness and gun violence.
The upcoming headquarters reveal represents more than just a physical space. According to Harris, it symbolizes growth, sustainability and a stronger ability to serve the community.
“This space means expanding impact, consistency and access to services. It's so near and dear to my heart,” she said.
For years, Onfiya operated without a central location, hosting programs and events in borrowed spaces throughout the region. As demand for services increased, the need for a permanent home became clear. The new headquarters will allow the organization to provide more consistent programming, expand outreach efforts and create a centralized hub for community engagement.
The grand opening event is expected to reflect Onfiya’s community-driven approach, offering free resources, supplies and services to attendees. Organizers say the event will include free food, clothing, hygiene products and family-friendly activities, while also creating opportunities for local organizations and vendors to connect with residents.
Harris emphasized that collaboration is at the heart of Onfiya’s mission, encouraging nonprofits, volunteers and community leaders to participate in the event and contribute to its impact.
Beyond the event itself, the new headquarters is positioned to serve as a long-term resource center for Douglas County and surrounding areas. Leaders hope it will strengthen partnerships, increase access to essential services and create a safe, welcoming space for individuals seeking support.
