On a recent Podcast Spotlight segment of the Wake Up With Dee Morning Show, host Dee caught up with media entrepreneur, educator, and Hip Hop musician Mr. Al Pete to discuss his journey in independent broadcasting and his flagship show, the Clear Visions Podcast.
While many creators jumped into podcasting during the recent digital boom, Mr. Al Pete has been a true veteran in the game. He first stepped into the podcasting space back in 2012 with The Groove Suite Podcast. What started as a single show quickly evolved into The MPN Network (The Neighborhood Podcast Network), an independent media company launched to give a platform to local and regional musicians, artists, and culture creators. Today, the network hosts a curated lineup of active podcasts.
Finding Clarity with the Clear Visions Podcast
When asked about the vision behind his personal show, the Clear Visions Podcast, Pete explained that he wanted a space to serve as a professional and creative journal. Drawing from his background as a Hip Hop artist, DJ, and Associate Professor of Communications at Edward Waters University, he uses the show to share real, transparent lessons about navigating the creative journey.
"I use it as a journal and let people go through the journey with me," Pete shared during the interview. "I talk about things I'm dealing with... the do's and don'ts of requesting music from DJs, how to approach your creative side, how to deal with being a creator, and even dealing with grief while continuing your work."
One of his most impactful releases was a three-part series titled "Connecting the Dots," which tackled community building, networking etiquette, and the difference between genuine connection and gatekeeping in the creative industry.
Empowering the Community Through Creative Freedom
For Mr. Al Pete, the biggest reward of running an independent network is the freedom to address real community issues with authenticity and care.
"The highlight for me is having the creative freedom to do what you want to do," Pete told Dee. "You set your own standards, go by your own values and beliefs, and speak on things that entice and empower your community without talking down on people. I lead with my heart."
In addition to his podcast network, Mr. Al Pete serves as President of the Northeast Florida chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) and Co-Chair of NABJ’s Entrepreneurship Task Force.
