Recently Juandolyn Stokes and Miss O, who is a math teacher is Nashville, TN discuss math. She shares with Stokes that Black Kids love math.
Miss O says She founded the program because she was tired of college students having to change their majors because they could not handle the math in science-based majors. She recalls how she felt she could have become a doctor despite her math weakness had she attended an HBCU instead of PWI (predominantly white institution), where she could have been nurtured instead of discouraged.
Miss O says math is a life skill and civil right. She tells Stokes Black Kids deserve to have high quality math teachers. Parents who struggle to help their students with math can benefit from The Math U
