On Point with Juandolyn Stokes welcomed “Sister by Choice” board member Lynn Mosley to share information about their upcoming 19th Annual Pink Ribbon 5K Run Walk at Piedmont Park on July 15 beginning at 8 a.m.
“Sisters by Choice” was founded in 1989 by Dr. Rogsbert Phillips-Reed who, according to Mosley, wanted to offer support to women, men, and their families who were diagnosed with breast cancer. The goal is to educate, raise awareness about the disease, and offer resources to increase the survivors’ rates.
There are several chapters in Atlanta and surrounding cities that hold monthly meetings for members.
The upcoming 5K is their largest fundraiser, which has a $150,000 goal to purchase a state of the art, cutting edge, 3D mobile mammography unit to help with early detection and offer access to those who are underserved or uninsured.
“The process is the key with early detection,” said Mosley.
The public is invited to participate in the Run/Walk in person, where they will meet at the Charles Allen Drive entrance of Piedmont Park or you can participate virtually, on a track or even a treadmill. Registered participants will receive a T-shirt.
You can track Sisters by Choice on social media at Instagram and Facebook @SBC1989ATL or visit their website, sistersbychoice.org for more information on how you can get involved.
