On Point with Juandolyn Stokes welcomed Dennis R. Maple and Dr. Lauren Starnes both of Goddard Systems LLC to share their findings in a survey that says Social-Emotional Development is the most important factor for parents in selecting early childhood education centers.

For some parents of children aged six and under, social emotional development is at the top the list followed by safety and security in choosing a school for their children.

Goodard Schools have been around for at least 35 years in at least 37 states, including Georgia. The survey of around 2,000 parents ranked social emotional development 48%; safety and security 45%; and academic development at 43% in order of importance, says Maple.

Social-emotional learning is the development of social interaction, understanding and managing emotions and practicing self-regulation skills.

“Social-emotional development is their [Childrens] social, intellectual, and moral development and it begins very early,” says Starnes.

Even a skill like teamwork is rooted in social-emotional development.
