In a recent interview on The Rashad Richey Morning Show's weekly segment "Run tell that," Former Ohio State Senator and Senior Fellow at the New School Institute on Race, Power, and Political Economy, the Honorable Nina Turner, shared her insights on the Republican National Convention's recent efforts to engage young people and the Black community.

Ms. Turner opened the conversation by criticizing both the Republican and Democratic parties for what she described as their use of "trinkets" to appeal to Black voters through popular culture. "I'm just really tired of the Republican Party, even the Democratic Party, using the popular culture that we created and throwing it back in our face as if those are the only things that we care about," Ms. Turner stated. She emphasized that these superficial efforts do not address the deep, material changes needed within the Black community.

Attorney Patillo then shifted the discussion to the broader implications of such political strategies, questioning whether these were genuine attempts at reform or merely ploys to gain votes. Ms. Turner responded with a pointed critique, asserting that the Republican Party's policies are fundamentally opposed to the needs of the Black community and that their current tactics are disingenuous.

The interview also touched on the recent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, with Ms. Turner referencing her latest piece in Newsweek. She drew parallels to historical instances of American violence, citing Malcolm X's comments following President John F. Kennedy's assassination. Ms. Turner stressed that the violence ingrained in American society often leads to such repercussions, but condemned any form of political violence, regardless of the target.

Ms. Turner's concerns extended to the Democratic Party, particularly its reliance on the Black vote without delivering substantial policy changes in return. She criticized the Congressional Black Caucus for not leveraging its significant influence to enact meaningful legislation.

Ms. Turner also expressed frustration with the party's handling of President Biden's candidacy and the broader implications for American politics.
