OPWJS Law and Legal with CK Hoffler and Juandolyn Stokes discuss the Department of Justice declined to bring charges against the officer involved in the shooting of Jacob Blake in which he was left paralyzed after being shot 7 times in the back. The Kenosha Police Department also declined to charge the officer.
The pair discussed the large protests in Wisconsin after the shooting. They continue with saying this ruling by the DOJ shows how much we need criminal justice reform and the passing of the George Floyd Justice and Policing Reform Bill. They discuss how this ruling is a huge blow to those in the civil rights community. Federal Civil rights Statutes determined there was not enough evidence.
They talk about this case being a travesty of justice. There needs to be more accountability in excessive force cases. The pair have some advice for men of color who are stopped by the police: Live through the experience.
