Fourth Panel Discussion on the Plight of Black and Brown Doctors Moves Toward Legislation

On Point with Juandolyn Stokes held its fourth panel discussion on an issue that continues to affect the health of the Black community, the shortage of Black and Brown Doctors. Experts warn of a public health crisis with the sparse number of Black doctors, only 5.7%.

This panel discussion, The Decriminalization of Medicine for Black and Brown Doctors was an effort to move towards legislation to put an end to this practice. For this reason, Senator Warnock's office was invited and agreed to listen in on the discussion for the purpose of reporting to his Washington legislative team.

"I am devastated with what is happening with Black and Brown doctors. Our doctors are under attack and being told to report to prison. We call it, the fix is in," said Belinda Parker Brown, CEO of Louisiana United International (LUI).

Black and Brown doctors continue to be targeted, attacked, indicted, and imprisoned by the concerted efforts of the government including the Drug Enforcement Agency, and the Department of Justice who have an impressive track record of targeting doctors of a particular age, financial fitness, and those who work independent practices.

According to Dr. Neil Anand, "A.I. (Artificial Intelligence) is used to target doctors."

But Dr. Morris Brown disagreed saying instead, "Doctors were targeted before A.I. Those who excel are targeted."

"Black doctors and nurses can realize the dream, but we can not live it. Once you are targeted for a white-collar crime, you are going to prison," said Dr. Michael Jones, who served 13 months in prison for Medicare Fraud.

On Point with Juandolyn Stokes remains committed to covering this topic until we can get the resolution we seek in the form of powerful legislation for our Black and Brown doctors," said producer Angela Greene.
