Mortgage and utilities assistance is now available for those adversely affected by the Covid-19 Pandemic. Congressman David Scott of Atlanta tells Audacy Atlanta's Maria Boynton there's $354 million dollars available.
Those needing assistance can apply on the Georgia Mortgage Assistance website. They can also call the Congressman's office at 770-210-5073.
Urban League of Greater Atlanta CEO Nancy Flake Johnson applauded the program launch saying "losing a place to live can set a family back for generations."
According to Commissioner Christopher Nunn with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs close to 150 families have already been helped through a smaller version of the program that launched last year. The families, according to Nunn, received approximately $15,800 each in assistance.
How do you qualify?
You have to meet the requirements for income and hardship, which includes making 100% of or less than the Area Median Income for your county.
You may also qualify as a socially disadvantaged individual if, according to the Georgia Mortgage Assistance website, your ability to purchase or own a home has been impaired due to diminished access to credit.
The aid is from federal funds provided by the American Rescue Plan.
