Dr. Sung Poblete, CEO of Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE) joined WAOK to share the details about the Teal Pumpkin Project, ahead of Halloween to make sure all children are included in the celebration.

“Teal Pumpkin Project is a movement to create a safer and more inclusive Halloween for all trick or treaters to encourage the availability of non-food treats,” said Poblete.

Many of our favorite and popular candies contain ingredients like milk, soy, nuts, wheat and sesame which are harmful to those who are allergic.

For this reason, FARE has partnered with CVS pharmacy to offer teal pumpkins to households, which can be displayed in the window or on the porch to reflect that your household supports the movement by offering non-food treats to trick or treaters.

Additionally, CVS is also offering over 100 affordable non-food treats like yo-yo’s, glow sticks, small toys, and temporary tattoos for children with food allergies.

There are 1 in 13 children with life threatening food allergies, said Poblete.

The Teal Pumpkin Project is active in all 50 states and it’s easy to register your household by visiting: www.foodallergy.org. Once you are registered, children can find your house on the map and know it is a safe location to go trick or treating.
