Councilwoman Marci Collier Overstreet Addresses DOT Project Concerns and Announces Citywide Run on Wake Up with Dee
This morning on Wake Up with Dee, host Dr. Dee Dawkins-Haigler welcomed Atlanta City Councilwoman Marci Collier Overstreet (District 11) for a candid and timely conversation addressing growing concerns from Southwest Atlanta residents and business owners.
The main topic of discussion was the ongoing Department of Transportation (DOT) repaving project currently affecting areas in District 11. Councilwoman Overstreet acknowledged the impact the construction has had on local businesses — from restricted customer access to parking issues and delivery disruptions.
"I understand the frustrations, and I hear you," Overstreet said. "This infrastructure upgrade is critical, but we must do a better job of balancing progress with preserving livelihoods. I'm working closely with the DOT and local stakeholders to minimize disruptions and ensure businesses are supported through this transition."
In a major announcement during the interview, Councilwoman Overstreet also revealed her intention to run for Atlanta City Council President in the upcoming election. With two terms already representing District 11, she expressed a commitment to bring inclusive, citywide leadership focused on equity, transparency, and community-first governance.
"This city is at a pivotal moment," she stated. "I'm running for Council President to bring unity, accountability, and forward-thinking leadership to City Hall."
